Hello, my name is
Jack Kimmins
I've worked with
I am a University Student, Software Engineer and Web Developer based in the Southwest of England. Presently, I am striving to obtain a first-class honours degree in Computing, enabling me to progress to postgraduate education.
About Me
Hello, my name is Jack Kimmins. I am passionate about building things and, more importantly, finding innovative ways to solve existing problems. Throughout the years, the world of computing has always inspired me due to the vast variety and the endless possibilities from every unique area of the subject.
However, my primary interest in computing would certainly be programming/scripting. I gain great satisfaction from creating desktop and web applications, linking them with a database and designing beautiful UIs to complement their backends. A few of my favourite ventures are listed below in the projects segment.
After graduating with a degree in Computing, I aim to acquire a master's degree and to continue my own endeavours to learn more about this fantastic subject, both in my personal time and in different work placements throughout the coming years.
Here are a few technologies I am the most familiar with:
- JavaScript
- PHP (v7+)
- C# (.NET Core)
- MySQL
- HTML5/CSS3
- C++
- Bootstrap (v4+)
- Windows Networking
My Projects
One of the best ways to learn anything is to teach yourself
Chatterrific
Chatterrific is an instant messaging platform started back in 2018. It is available in both a downloadable C# desktop application and as an online PHP web application. I have created several distinct versions of the platform over the years, acting as a sort of playground as I develop new skills and abilities in application development.Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
During my second year of university, I worked in a team to design and build a new website for Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, a local zoo west of Bristol. This is one of the largest websites that I have made to date, requiring countless hours of work over an expansive period.jCode
jCode was originally designed as an online text hosting service for sharing snippets of code. It can support numerous programming and scripting languages and makes saving, sharing, and reviewing code easy. I then developed it further by making it into an education platform for other developers.Network Operations Centre (NOC)
NOC is a Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) software suite designed for monitoring and management of networked computers from a remote location.Isolated Computer Network
I volunteered to create, manage, and maintain my college’s isolated computer network for use in our cyber and networking lessons.360
360 is a panorama photograph viewer that I designed and developed to showcase my personal 360 images. It can read the EXIF metadata of uploaded images to automatically determine the picture's location, when it was taken etc. and display this information on the user's screen.Offendermetre
The Offendermetre is my implementation of a profanity filter. It automatically censors offensive words or phrases in a given text. Due to the Scunthorpe Problem, standard word filters are not completely fool proof. However, my implementation uses machine learning and can tackle some of the hardest phrases to solve, including misspellings and borderline cases.jTest
jTest is an integrated reinforcement learning platform designed to promote learning in a fun and competitive manner. Reinforcing an understanding of a particular subject enables students to become more successful in real-world situations. This is done by testing students on teacher defined questions and rewarding them with jPoints for correct answers and deducting them for incorrect answers.Contact Me
